Frequently Asked Questions
How is History-Based Value calculated?
Every used vehicle has a unique history – and that means it also has a unique value. We use information like odometer reading, prior damage, ownership history, service history, use type, location and market trends to determine a custom-built value for each car. For example, you wouldn't expect to pay the same price for a car that has been in an accident versus one that hasn't.
How do I get my History-Based Value?
A History-Based Value Report comes free with the purchase of a Vehicle History Report (VHR) as it uses the detailed information in the VHR in addition to market trends and your location to determine your vehicle’s value.
Why do I have to redeem my History-Based Value Report within 14 days?
The used vehicle market changes fast, so in order to provide the most accurate result based on up-to-date information, you must redeem your History-Based Value Report within 14 days of purchasing a VHR.
Can I get a History-Based Value on any vehicle?
There are some rare instances when CARFAX Canada is not able to provide a valuation for a vehicle. These instances include if the vehicle was manufactured before the year 2000, if it’s not an automobile (i.e., if it’s a motorcycle, RV, trailer, boat, etc.), if the vehicle is a rare or exotic unit, if the vehicle has negative branding or if the vehicle is valued at less than $1000.
